![]() We now had everything set up and were ready to roll and put the chatterbox xbi2 headsets to test. The adhesive on the speakers and the mic was hardly sticky and we had to tuck the speakers under some helmet padding to get them to stay in place.Īfterhaving spent all this time fiddling with the devices, I did not have very high expectations from them in regards to how they would perform on the road. We were not using the boom mics but instead had the stick-on mics that could stick in front of the mouth on the helmet. Getting the units to latch onto the helmets was pretty straight forward but the quality of the speakers and the mic was definitely not worth $250 (each). We went through the exercise at least 4 to 5 times before we finally got them to pair. So we do exactly this, and the lights on both the units are flashing red. If the devices are paired correctly, they will turn off themselves and be paired the next time they are turned on. Moving on to the pairing nightmare, the manual says to simply press and hold the power and mode buttons simultaneously on the first headset and the LED light will flash red and an occasional blue after 3 seconds, then release the buttons and get the second headset and simultaneously press the power and mode buttons for just one second, LED light will flash red and blue. I had to literally use my nails to press them. The buttons on the chatterbox headsets are hard to press with bare fingers let alone riding gloves. Getting them paired in the morning was by far thebiggest hurdle of the entire trip. Before we were to set sail in the morning, we put them on charge overnight. Well the chatterbox headsets definitely gave me that vibe. You know how sometimes things just look like made in China. My first impression was that they were very ordinary and flimsy looking. I dosed off in the passenger seat while riding back from Napa thanks to the Chatterbox.ĭue to their huge advertising budget, one of the first names that come to mind when thinking of motorcycle communication systems is Chatterbox and so our very first review is that of the Chatterbox XBi2 Bluetooth rider-to-rider system. Going long distance on a motorcycle and not being able to talk between the rider and passenger can be dangerously boring.
